Pune – In a heartening initiative towards environmental conservation, Empress Garden Management organized a special tree plantation drive today to mark the occasion of World Earth Day.
At 10 AM, the event was inaugurated by the Vice President of the institution, Mrs. Sumantai Kirloskar, along with President Mr. Prataprao Pawar, Honorary Secretary Mr. Suresh Pingale, and other dignitaries including Yashwant Khaire, Plant Expert Prof. Shree D. Mahajan, Shrikant Igalhalikar, Sharvari Barve, and Prashant Chavan.
A rare and captivating tree, the ‘Urvashi Tree’ (scientifically known as Amherstia nobilis), was planted during the ceremony.
Originally native to Myanmar (Burma), the Urvashi Tree is celebrated worldwide as one of the most beautiful and exotic trees, often counted among the finest specimens on Earth.
Being an evergreen species with extraordinary ornamental value, it is fondly referred to as the “Urvashi Tree,” symbolizing divine beauty.
In addition to the Urvashi Tree, several other species like Shivana, Yellow Bauhinia (Peela Kanchan), Sonchafa (Golden Champa), Taman, and Shendri were also planted, enriching the garden’s diverse ecosystem.
As always, the primary goal of the Empress Garden management was to promote eco-friendly practices, conserve rare plant species, and provide citizens with a meaningful connection to nature.
