Pune to Delhi Railway Journey Witnesses First-Ever Marathi Sahitya Yatri Sammelan

A Historic Moment for Marathi Literature
In a proud and historic moment for Marathi literature, the first-ever Marathi Sahitya Yatri Sammelan commenced on a railway journey from Pune to Delhi. This unique literary gathering will span 30 hours, bringing together esteemed literary figures, scholars, and enthusiasts aboard the Mahadji Shinde Express. The event marks a significant milestone in the promotion of Marathi language and literature.

A Grand Departure from Pune
On February 19, the special literary train was flagged off from Pune Railway Station in the presence of Marathi Language Development Minister Uday Samant. This journey is set to create a vibrant atmosphere of intellectual exchange, poetry recitations, and discussions on various literary topics. The train is headed towards Delhi, where the 98th All India Marathi Sahitya Sammelan will take place from February 21 to 23.

Marathi Language Gains Recognition at JNU
During the flagging-off ceremony, Minister Uday Samant expressed his immense pride in being the Welcoming Guest for the Sahitya Yatri Sammelan. He also announced a major achievement for the Marathi language – the establishment of a Marathi Study Center at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. Named after renowned poet Kusumagraj, this center is set to launch on February 27, coinciding with Marathi Language Pride Day. The introduction of an M.A. Marathi course at JNU is another significant step towards preserving and promoting the language on a national platform.

Literary Celebration on Rails
The train itself has transformed into a moving literary festival, with over 1,200 senior literary figures participating in the journey. Discussions, poetry readings, and intellectual debates are taking place in the compartments, creating an unparalleled experience for Marathi literature lovers. Minister Samant himself is part of this journey, engaging directly with the literary stalwarts and enthusiasts.

A Tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Prior to departure, a Book Dindi was organized, symbolizing a literary pilgrimage. The occasion was further enriched by the celebration of Shiv Jayanti, where dignitaries and participants paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through ritualistic worship and reverence. The event beautifully blended history, literature, and cultural pride.
