Choundi, May 15, 2025 In a visit rich with cultural reverence and socio-political significance, Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson and Shiv Sena leader Dr. Neelam Tai Gorhe paid heartfelt tribute to Rajmata Ahilyadevi Holkar at her grand memorial in Choundi (Taluka Karjat, District Ahilyanagar) on May 15 at 11:30 AM. Her visit underlined the enduring relevance of Ahilyabai’s legacy in today’s governance and social reform.


Ahilyabai: The Queen Who Ruled Hearts and Fought for Justice

Speaking at the memorial, Dr. Gorhe praised Ahilyabai Holkar not just as a queen but as a visionary leader who dedicated her life to justice, equality, and women’s empowerment.

“This majestic memorial is a result of the collective efforts of the villagers and the government. Ahilyabai’s life was a relentless fight for justice, social balance, and women’s rights. She ruled not just a kingdom but the hearts of her people,” said Dr. Gorhe.

She emphasized that Ahilyabai’s life and values remain highly relevant in contemporary India, especially in policymaking and leadership focused on inclusive development.


Focus on Governance, Women’s Rights, and Rural Development

During her speech, Dr. Gorhe brought attention to the recent state cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
She mentioned that several pivotal decisions for the development of the newly formed Ahilyanagar district (formerly Ahmednagar) were taken, including the launch of the ‘Adishakti Yojana’ aimed at women’s welfare.

“While the government has introduced progressive schemes, we still need comprehensive surveys, especially focusing on single women to ensure that no one is left behind,” she added.

Dr. Gorhe also assured that she would fully support the speedy completion of any remaining work at the memorial site and applauded the efforts of the local administration, sarpanch, and residents for maintaining the premises diligently.


Visit to Council Chairman Ram Shinde’s Residence

As part of her tour, Dr. Gorhe visited the residence of Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Hon. Ram Shinde. In a warm and personal exchange, she also met and extended best wishes to his mother and wife, reinforcing bonds of mutual respect and camaraderie within the state’s leadership.
