Pune, April 7, 2025: “When the song Shukratara was penned in 1963, we were not even born. The youth of that era were enchanted by Arun Date’s Bhavgeet, and so were we when we grew up. Now, as our children step into adulthood, they too cherish his melodies. Arun Date has truly connected three generations through his timeless music,” said MP Medha Kulkarni at the grand 100th show of Nava Shukratara in Pune.
Many evergreen songs like Shukratara, Lajun Te Hasne, Jhopalya Vachun Jhoolayache, and Ya Janmavar… continue to mesmerize music lovers and bring back fond memories of Arun Date’s golden voice.
The special event was held at the Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha, organized by Manik Nirmiti, presented by Atul Arun Date, and supported by Magistics Landmarks. MP Medha Kulkarni graced the occasion as the chief guest. Atul Arun Date, Preeti Panse from Magistics Landmarks, and other dignitaries attended the event. A highlight of the evening was the special felicitation of renowned singer and composer Mandar Apte for his contributions to the program.

Medha Kulkarni expressed, “The success of Shukratara lies in its music, the poetic brilliance of Padgaonkar’s lyrics, and the unparalleled voice of Arun Date. Today, we listen to music repeatedly on YouTube, yet it doesn’t provide the same joy. The magic of live performances is unmatched. These programs allow us to see artists perform, cheer for them, and experience music in its true essence alongside family and friends. Such programs must continue.”
She also shared a personal connection with the legendary singer, saying, “Arun Date treated me like his daughter. His voice was as sweet as his personality. Watching Nava Shukratara today brings back memories of his mesmerizing presence.”
Speaking at the event, Atul Arun Date said, “My father performed nearly 2,750 shows of Shukratara. Nava Shukratara is an extension of that legacy. The first show was in Pune, and now, the 100th show is happening here as well. I am confident that the 200th show will also be held in Pune.”
He further elaborated, “Despite being the son of a Bhavgeet singer, I have always embraced all kinds of music. I have even listened to Pakistani artists. However, I decided to work towards preserving Marathi Bhavgeet, which is why I have dedicated myself to this field.”
Atul Date also revealed, “Although my father was a Hindu, he never let religion influence his music. He admired Mehdi Hassan and Michael Jackson alike, proving that true music transcends all boundaries.”
Mandar Apte, who has been part of the program since its inception in 2016, shared his thoughts: “This is my 85th solo Shukratara show. When I performed the 99th show, I questioned myself—do I deserve this stage? I remember attending an Arun Date Shukratara show in 1996 from the back row because a ticket was canceled. Today, I consider myself fortunate to be part of his musical legacy.”
He further added, “I always tell my audience not to search for Arun Date’s voice in mine. Shukratara is Arun Date. I am only presenting these immortal songs to the audience. For me, music is more about joy than professionalism.”
To mark the milestone of the 100th show, the event also honored various artists, including singers Pallavi Pargaonkar and Varsha Joshi, along with instrumentalists Prasanna Bam, Amit Kunte, Abhay Ingle, Pranav Haridas, Jhankar Kanade, Amey Thakurdessai, Prashant Kamble, Sayali Sontakke, Shubhankar Kulkarni, and Tushar Joshi.
The program opened with Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram, the only bhajan ever recorded by Arun Date. It was followed by melodious renditions of classics like Swargangeyachya Khatavarti Vachan Dile Tu Mala, Sakhi Shejarini Tu Hasat Raha, Asen Mi, Nasen Mi, Tari Asel Geet He, and Divas Tujhe He Phulayache… Jhoolayawachun Jhoolayache.
Atul Arun Date conceptualized the program, while Dr. Preeti Joshi skillfully anchored the event, ensuring that the evening became an unforgettable musical experience for all present.
As Nava Shukratara continues to capture hearts, it proves that great music is timeless, and Arun Date’s legacy will forever shine like the bright evening star he so beautifully sang about.
