Pune, June 12: The third edition of the ‘Zhep’ (Leap) initiative concluded on a high note at the Sanmati Bal Niketan, Manjri (Bk.), Pune, operated by the esteemed Padmashree Maharshi Dr. Sindhutai Sapkal (Mai)-founded “Saptasindhu Mahila Aadhar, Balsangopan, and Shikshan Sanstha.” The ceremony was an emotionally uplifting and motivational event that celebrated the dreams, confidence, and achievements of students who are being nurtured with care and purpose.

Chief Guests Praise the Institution’s Vision
The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Jasvinder Narang, CEO of the Vilu Poonawalla Foundation, as the chief guest and chairperson. He was joined by Mr. Rohit Shinde and Mr. Vijay Kolhatkar from the Serum Institute of India, Mr. Deepak Gaikwad, President of Mamata Bal Sadan, and Mr. Vinay Sapkal, President of The Mother Global Foundation.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Narang expressed his deep respect for the institution and shared, “Over the past five years, I have closely witnessed the remarkable work done here. The goal has always been to ensure that orphaned children never feel orphaned — they are given a family’s love, access to education, and proper care. This vision, carried forward by the late Sindhutai Sapkal (Mai) and Adar Poonawalla Sir, is truly inspirational.”
Opening Remarks by Mamata Sapkal Set the Tone
The event began with a heartfelt welcome and opening remarks from Mrs. Mamata Sindhutai Sapkal, daughter of Mai and current President of the institute. She shed light on the essence of the ‘Zhep’ initiative: “This is not just the conclusion of a program. It is a celebration of the confidence, progress, and inner transformation that our children have achieved. ‘Zhep’ is a milestone in their journey toward becoming empowered individuals.”
Student Talents Shine Bright
One of the most touching aspects of the evening was the felicitation of meritorious students by the esteemed dignitaries. Students also took to the stage to express their gratitude and personal reflections — not just in Marathi or Hindi, but in multiple languages — showcasing their growth in communication skills and cultural awareness.
The event also saw participation from staff members, who shared how the initiative helped them guide the children in unlocking their hidden potential through arts, dialogue, and holistic activities.
New Scholarship to Encourage Academic Excellence
Adding to the joy of the occasion, Dr. Vrushali Randhir, Principal of Ness Wadia College, announced a special scholarship of ₹5,000 for the top-performing Class 10 student at the institute, starting this year. This thoughtful gesture aims to encourage academic excellence among the children and recognize their hard work.
A Program That Builds More Than Skills
The ‘Zhep’ program has successfully created a platform where children not only learn but also evolve. Over the years, it has focused on nurturing qualities like self-confidence, public speaking, creative arts, and interpersonal skills — all critical for shaping well-rounded individuals. The initiative’s long-term goal is to help children dream beyond limitations and walk towards a future with purpose and pride.
As shared by many in attendance, the emotional intelligence and talents displayed by the children stood as proof of the transformation they’ve undergone. ‘Zhep’ is more than just an annual activity — it is a transformative journey that empowers children for life.
Strong Support System Behind the Scenes
The success of this event was made possible thanks to the seamless coordination and efforts of the entire Sanmati Bal Niketan team. Mr. Dinesh Shete conducted the program with grace and warmth. Mr. Pratap Chinchole introduced the dignitaries, and Mrs. Padma Shinde delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all supporters and well-wishers.
A Step Forward, Not an End
The evening ended on a hopeful note — a reminder that the closing ceremony marked not the end, but a new beginning. With new skills, revived confidence, and continued support from organizations like the Vilu Poonawalla Foundation and Serum Institute, these children are ready to soar.
