Marathi Film ‘Shatir: The Beginning’ Postpones Release Amid Uncontrolled Rush of New Releases – Now Hits Theatres on June 13

Reshma Vaikar’s debut production takes a responsible step to avoid box office clash; trailer already generating strong buzz online

Pune – In the increasingly crowded space of Marathi cinema, where over 100 films are produced each year, the challenge of release scheduling has become more intense than ever. Typically, at least two Marathi films release every week, but the lack of a regulatory body to coordinate release dates has led to multiple films clashing on the same day — leaving none with optimal screen time or prime slots.

One such case was shaping up on May 23, 2025, when seven Marathi films were scheduled to hit theatres simultaneously. To avoid getting caught in this chaotic release wave, the makers of ‘Shatir: The Beginning’ have made a strategic and responsible decision to postpone their film’s release to June 13, 2025.

‘Shatir’ – A Hard-Hitting Youth Drama with a Strong Social Message

Based on true events, ‘Shatir: The Beginning’ is a gripping suspense thriller that tackles the growing menace of drug abuse and addiction among youth. The story follows a group of college students who rise up against the drug mafia and its devastating influence on society. It’s a tale of courage, rebellion, and the fight for justice.

Produced by Reshma Vaikar under the banner of Shriyansh Arts and Motion Pictures, the film also marks the directorial debut of Sunil Sushila Dashrath Vaikar. The film stars Reshma Vaikar in a lead role alongside Yogesh Suman, Ramesh Pardeshi, Meer Sarovar, Rameshwar Gite, Gaurav Rokade, Nishant Singh, and Manoj Chaudhary.

Trailer Launch and Public Response

The trailer of ‘Shatir’, recently launched on social media, has already caught the attention of netizens. With a punchy line that reads “…this monkey army will reduce your golden Lanka to ashes,” the trailer hints at the film’s bold tone and confrontational theme.

Audiences have responded positively to both the teaser and the song ‘Pori Amhi Marathi Pori’, which has garnered appreciation for its catchy tune and cultural vibe.

Director Speaks: A Social Wake-Up Call for Youth

Talking about the film, debutant director Sunil Vaikar said,

‘Shatir: The Beginning’ is my first attempt as a filmmaker. Through this film, we are trying to highlight the increasing issue of drug addiction and its connection to crime. It’s not just entertainment – it’s a wake-up call for society, especially the younger generation.

He added,

“We had originally planned to release the film on May 23, but since multiple Marathi films were scheduled for the same day, we decided to step back for the greater good of the industry and push our release to June 13.”

Producer’s Call: ‘There’s a Need for Regulation in Film Releases’

Actress and producer Reshma Vaikar, speaking about the decision, shared:

The response to our songs and trailer has been overwhelming. Our team is fully prepared for release, but releasing alongside six other films makes no sense. We want our film to reach the audience it deserves, and that’s why we chose June 13.

She further emphasized the need for a regulatory body under the Marathi film corporation or federation to ensure that no more than two or three films are released in a single week.

Releasing five to seven films at once hurts everyone – the filmmakers, the audience, and the entire Marathi cinema ecosystem,” she said.

Musical Credits and Technical Crew

‘Shatir: The Beginning’ features music by Rohit Nagbhide, with lyrics penned by Vaibhav Deshmukh. The soulful and powerful songs have been sung by renowned vocalists Vaishali Samant and Mugdha Karhade.

A Film with Purpose, Releasing June 13

With its gritty storytelling, realistic characters, and strong social message, ‘Shatir: The Beginning’ is poised to be more than just another thriller. It aims to start conversations about the real issues plaguing today’s youth and the impact of substance abuse on families and communities.

Catch ‘Shatir: The Beginning’ in theatres across Maharashtra from June 13, 2025.
